CAVERSFIELD
Remote from the church, and about a quarter of a mile away close to Bicester Aerodrome, is a housing estate which appears to be a mix of former MOD houses and privately built ones.
St. Laurence's is hardly visible from the road and access to it can be difficult because of the busy road. There is no direct vehicle access but parking is permissible on the farm drive opposite. In March 2013 Bicester Airfield, formerly RAF Bicester, was acquired from the MOD by Bicester Heritage Limited with the aim of developing the UK's first business park dedicated to historic motoring and aviation. They describe it as a "marina-like environment for classic cars, with specialists able to take car of all areas of buying, restoring, running, storing and enjoying". Caversfield House was built in the 19th century on the site of the former manor house. It is now divided into apartments and partly available for hire as a location. Caversfield is about 1.5 miles north of the centre of Bicester. |
